Altinkum

Atinkum is the beach area of Didim (also known as Yenihisar) and sits on the Aegean Sea at the end of a peninsula some 24k from the Bodrum to Izmir road. There are only two ways into Didim from that road, one heading to Akbuk and taking the Didim turnoff and the other taking the road through Akkoy and Akyennikoy.

High Season from the cliffs

The Didim area is home to the Templeof Apollo and is within a short driving distance of the historic sites Miletos and Prienne.
The town itself is developing rapidly, some may say too rapidly, and is popular with Turkish and British holidaymakers alike.
The months of July and August are particularly hectic as tens of thousands of holidaymakers descend on the town.
The sea front contains many restaurants catering for all manners of food but can be expensive in season. The hassle that has been one of the major problems in Altinkum appears to be coming under control.

Temple of Apollo

Further inland, on Ataturk Bulvari leading into the town proper, down side streets and in the town, more traditional and cheaper Turkish eating establishments can be found.
In Winter the sea front is only a shadow of what it is in Summer and the Tuntas Hotel end of town virtually closes down apart from one or two bars/cafes that remain open for the local population (Turkish and British alike).
Work is progressing rapidly with a new marine that will be the biggest in the Turkey. Work on a new golf course is also scheduled to commence soon.
Some see it as a brash touristy type, place others don’t.

Only 4k out of town
